There are many popular places to visit in Norway, and every traveler has different tastes. Here are examples.

The North Cape

The Midnight Sun of Norway at North Cape

The North Cape is a monumental natural experience. At the North Cape, the midnight sun is visible, if it is not overcast from May 14 to July 29, and the period of darkness lasts from November 18 to January 24.

The Geirangerfjord

The Geirangerfjord is one of Norway's most popular sights. The Geirangefjord offers visitors three breathtaking waterfalls hitting the fjord on both sides of the waterway.

The town of Lillehammer

The town of Lillehammer. Lilehammer is picturesque town in south-eastern Norway - many remember the name Lillehammer from 1994 Winter Olympics. Today, Lillehammer attracts travelers year-round for outdoor activities and relaxation close to nature at Lake Mjosa. There are lots of sports events each year, especially in February and March.

Vigeland Park

Vigeland Park is one of Oslo's most beautiful public parks. It contains the life's work of Gustav Vigeland, a famous Norwegian sculptor. More than 200 Vigeland masterpieces are on display here. There is a visitor center in the park as well as a souvenir shop and a cafe.

The Holmenkollen Ski jump

The Holmenkollen Ski jump in Holmenkollen is Norway's most popular attraction for travelers. Holmenkollen hosts FIS World Cup ski competitions each year. Holmenkollen is not merely a sports venue; it is also a tourist magnet of note. Visitors can enjoy lots of interesting ski history and a beautiful view of Olso and the surrounding fjord. And if you get bored, you can even experience flying 100 meters in the world famous ski jumping hill inside the ski-simulator.

The Snow Hotel in Kirkenes

The Kirkenes Snow Hotel is one of Norway's top sights in the winter, I believe. It's a truly beautiful place. Starting in mid-December, the Snow Hotel offers room called "Snow Suites". These 20 guest rooms come with sleeping bags, mattresses, and naturally lots of art made of snow and ice. There is a Snow bar where guests mingle, and if you're hungry, visit the snow-free restaurant. You will also find a small sleeping area here in case you can't sleep the Snow Suites.

The best time to go to Norway is early summer. If you want to avoid the high travel season, May and September are wonderful alternatives.

Norway is the land of the midnight sun in the North Cape area, with 24-hr daylight from the middle of May to the end of July, during which the sun does not set. Conversely, there are long winter nights from the end of November to the end of January, during which the sun does not rise above the horizon and the northern lights, or aurora borealis, can be seen.

The weather is temperate along coasts, modified by the North Atlantic Current. The interior is colder. It is rainy year-round on the west coast.

Summer : Summer is from the middle of May until the end of July. From late June until early August is when the weather is warmest with temperatures sometimes reaching 25 C - 30 C.

Autumn : From late August, the sun sets earlier each day.

Winter : From the middle of November until the end of January, the sun does not rise at all. October, February and March are the best months for seeing a spectacular show of northern lights.

Spring : Spring is from late May until mid-June, but this varies from year to year.

Geography

Location : Norway is in Northern Euorpe, bordered by the North Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. Border countries include Finland, Sweden, and Russia.

Geography : The mountains of Norway are described as upland, lowland and tablelands. There are 50,000 islands off its much indented coastline. Norway is the only NATO member having a land boundary with Russia.

Famous person-Thor Heyerdahl Explorer

Thor Heyerdahl Explorer

Thor Heyerdahl was born in 1914, in Larvik, Norway. At the age of 23, he took his bride, Liv, to the Polynesian island of Tahiti. While there, they were adopted by Chief Teriieroo. Scientific theory of the day suggested that the original settlers of Polynesia arrived by boat from Southeast Asia. Since the prevailing ocean currents flow from West to East in the area, Heyerdahl postulated that the first inhabitants actually came from the western hemisphere.
World War II forced Heyerdahl to return to Norway where he served in a Norwegian parachute unit.

In 1947 Heyerdahl decided to build a balsa raft named the "Kon-Tiki". With a team of 5 companions, Heyerdahl sailed the raft from Callio, Peru to Rarora stoll, Tuamotu Archipelago in Polynesia. The trip covered 8,000 km (4300 miles) and took 101 days to complete. The success of the expedition proved that ancient Peruvians could have reached Polynesia in this manner.

In subsequent years, Heyerdahl led expeditions to Peru, Easter Island, and the Pyramids of Guimar in the Canary Islands. His research transformed theories of the origins of aboriginal peoples and their migrations.

He received numerous medals, honors, and awards. He was a member of the International Congress on the Americanists, the Pacific Science Congress, and the International Congress of Anthropology and Ethnology.

He died in his sleep on April 18, 2002. He was remembered as one of history's great explorers and one of Norway's most famous sons.

I choose Norway because my best friend, Jim , moved to Oslo. She moved there because she married a Norwegian. He works as an engineer. Norway is bordered by Sweden and Finland. The country is best known as "The Land of the Midnight Sun". They have sunshine at 12 a.m. I hope that my boyfriend takes me there someday.
